One Year Later: Done, Kinda... :)

There are 8,760 hours in a year.  That's a LOT of time.  And yet, it goes by SO QUICKLY.


It's been one year since I declared that I was, once again, challenging myself to do 30 things.  And while going through the process of completing all 30 challenges over the past 365 days, I changed my entire life.  I'm in a completely different place, both literally and figuratively...


I moved 1200 miles.  I went through some crazy sh*t...

This is the reason why I love doing these challenges - it forces me to continuously learn and challenge myself, reminds me to continue doing things that I enjoy doing, and generally helps me get the most out of life. 


But this challenge, over this past year, also forced me to look at what was most important to me... forced me to face that I was not where I wanted to be, helped me identify the major changes I needed in my life, and gave me the tools to figure out how to achieve my goals.


And throughout this past year, the goals I began with shifted.  While I love having challenges to motivate me, and while, as an example, participating in a FlashMob would have been a cool experience, I didn't have the energy to devote to finding and training for a FlashMob because I was doing other amazing things with my life, things that were not on the list.


So... I didn't complete all 31 items... in fact, I completed only about half of the items... And while I'm slightly disappointed that I didn't check everything off the list, at the end of the day, completing something just to complete is meaningless... so I'm OK with only completed 20 out of my 31. That's still 20 items crossed off the list.

 
And more importantly, I focused on me, finding what my true purpose was, and in the end, made myself happy... and that's all that really matters.


So, one year later... one more year of incredible, life changing experiences... here's the rundown on how I did!
  1. Become certified in Scuba diving - partially completed, but on hold due to the $$$$ required! :)
  2. 30 days of shoes - originally this was "Teach a spin class" since I got certified last year, and it was kinda "eh"
  3. Read 30 more books
  4. Dress like a superhero for Halloween
  5. See a Steelers game in enemy territory
  6. Participate in a Flash Mob - not completed...
  7. Create (and follow) a financial plan- This is my new job, so this is being deferred to next year :)
  8. Become conversational in Spanish - uhhh... si? not really... definitely back on the list for next year
  9. Take a stand up paddle board lesson - not completed, but so many opportunities to complete it in the future
  10. Do the “Insanity” 60 day challenge
  11. Visit my parents in Alabama =)
  12. Do a Tough Mudder / Warrior dash type of race - not completed, but scheduled for Jan 2014!
  13. Go Paleo for 30 days - I'm working on it... but not completed...
  14. Go to a concert
  15. Ride on the back of a motorcycle
  16. Learn how to fly a helicopter
  17. Eat at another 3 star Michelin restaurant
  18. Cook 30 more new recipes, and blog about each one!
  19. Travel somewhere else on my bucket list
  20. Visit the NY Botanical Gardens
  21. See "The Book of Mormon" on Broadway
  22. Hang out at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Rooftop Bar - not completed as I moved out of NYC before they reopened for the summer
  23. Go to Peter Luger's steakhouse
  24. Run a race (10K, half marathon or marathon)
  25. Take a writing class
  26. See Fuerza Bruta
  27. Get more involved with a non-profit
  28. Complete the counted cross stitch piece that I’ve been working on for years! - ummm yeah...
  29. Take pole dancing classes - now why didn't I do this one?!?!  Doh.
  30. Learn how to change the tire on a car
  31. Do something crazy

And more importantly, what should be on my next list? (HA!!  You know I can't stop doing these challenges!)
